Introduction

I use Gnome, there, I've said it. Some people would have me stoned to death for saying that, but it is my choice after all. To run Gnome that is, not get stoned to death. I don't think I would like a stoning.

That said, back when I ran Crux Linux and cooked my own packages I used to run KDE and then moved on to XFCE. Quite simply, when I had to compile my own stuff, Gnome was a nightmare to build. Now I am running Ubuntu on my workstations and building from source is (largely) a thing of the past, I prefer to stick with Gnome which is the default Ubuntu desktop.

I've been using Gnome for 4 years now and I have found some great Gnome applications and a few tweaks along the way. Below you can find my standard Ubuntu workstation build which is almost entirely comprised of Gnome applications.

More Gnome Applications

My list of Gnome software recommendations is not exhaustive, I have picked my favourite Gnome application for each purpose. If you want a more complete list of what is out there the visit GnomeFiles.
