Using nullmailer allows hosts to send email via a appropriate relay or smart host.

Null Mailer

I use the following package combo otherwise the installation of Ubuntu/Debain packages requiring an MTA will default exim4, bleh!

 aptitude install nullmailer mailutils

Follow the prompts.
